The basic data types are nominal, ordinal and scale. Parametric and nonparametric refers to two different approaches to statistical testing.

If you use nominal data using Amos, means that, you have to employ observed variable (the rectangular shape). But if you use the continuous scale, you have to use the latent construct.

you incorporate nominal variables as in regression. That is you create dummy variables.

Think of Amos as you do regression analysis where the scale variables you input and analyze as it is and the nominal scale you input using dummy variables. Since both are observed variables, you can use the rectangles to model in Amos Graphics.
