Gaussian usually provides binary files, so it's just a question of copying all the files to a directory and then making sure all the access flags are set as described in the manual.
You will need to make sure the gaussian root directory, scratch directory are in your path (either local or global), and that the g09.profile has been run. You can change the first two to suit your installation.
Also note that the form of some of these instructions will depend on what shell you're using. I think this is bash by default on Ubuntu, so these should be OK, but this is worth checking by typing "env" at the command line.
