To induce type 2 diabetes in rats, streptozotocin is the preferred diabetogenic agent to alloxan. For single intraperitoneal injection of STZ (at doses 60-65 mg/kg body weight dissolved in citrate buffer, pH 4.4-4.5), administer nicotinamide (110-120 mg/kg, intraperitoneally; dissolved in normal saline),15 min before STZ induction. Rats with fasting blood glucose >126 mg/dL 7 d after STZ induction should serve as type 2 diabetic rats. For details, check this article. Pellegrino et al. Chinedum Ogbonnaya Eleazu after 10 weeks 30% HFD and an injuction of 35 mg/kg streptozotocyn in adult rats with no hyperglycemia effect can we inject the rats for second time with streptozotocyn to have a result ?
