That would be a great app, but how you intend to calculate the energy a household needs? The methodology you adopt will affect the accuracy of your estimates and therefore the plans you provide to reduce energy demand. So it would be great if you provide more details about how the app works and what level of accuracy you're targeting.

I really could show the connection between the living style and what would happen around the world. Thanks a lot for that idea! :)

Nicola Colonna: Easy to use is a given, yes! I want to keep it very straightforward while being engaging. Nobody should have problems to use it, this includes a simple interface. As soon as I have a prototype I'd love to hear your opinion about it! I'll post it here and send it to you. With low data demanding you mean mobile data, don't you? And for the last bullet point: I plan to do a process that goes like this:

- Measuring the current behavior,

- telling what would happen if everybody was like that, then

- presenting solutions,

- let the user choose a solution and then

- guide him through the intervention. When he has finished:

- Measure again and

- tell what would happen if everybody was like that.

Alaa Krayem : Thanks a lot for the thought. You are right, the calculation is a real problem. I recently scouted a few services, that provide an estimate for you.

All in all it’s always the same game.

You answer a few questions what you do in your life and the calculator takes an educated guess on your CO2-Footprint. What I have experienced there are always the same factors to contribute to a smaller CO2-Footprint:

- Don't fly

- Change car against bus/train/public transport/bicycle

- Reduce or renounce meat

- Change your energy service provider

- Try to save power

- Try to buy locally

- Engage, or invest in climate positive actions (trees, or other projects)

This is why I wouldn't consider the accuracy of the co2-calculator the top priority. It’s just important to have a general feeling about what you have as a co2 footprint. I always try to answer as correct as possible and I always get around 8 tones +/- one ton. And I already compensate it! :D

To sum it up: I ask questions and from these questions take an educated guess (on a reliable co2 calculator). From this guess I try to calculate the most efficient activity for the user to reduce his or her co2 footprint. That’s the story.
