I am working with species of the genus Lathyrus (grasspea), whose seeds are essentially like little (pebble sized) rocks. The goal is to get the seeds to a powder of at least sand-sized coarseness. I have tried the following without success (all with liquid N2):

- mortar & pestle

- bead beater with 3mm steel beads, 30c/s, 10-15min.

Parts of the seed are becoming powderized, but there are still large (2-3mm) chunks that just won't wear down. Are there any suggestions for getting around this problem?
