Mr.Saif you are interested doing research in snow-melt runoff, for which you require snow covered area information. Satellite images allow you to delineate, and extract this snow cover information. Now for extracting snow cover multi-spectral images can be useful. You have to get cloud free images for your study, which you can ask or browse from relevant space agencies websites. You also need image processing softwares (open source/commercial) for analysis, in addition to modelling software. You need to study the spectral signatures for identifying snow cover. I suggest you can take help of some remote sensing application centre/lab in your region.
