Hi there everyone, my name is ahmad mhanna and I'm currently pursuing a bachelors in statistics. I graduate next year and I am planning to apply to phd programs due to my overwhelming interest in everything math. In order to increase my chances of getting accepted I'm trying to cushion my application with research but I am finding it hard to find any potential collaborations I can help in. I have great R programming and data visualization skills ( I can provide previous university work) and I am willing to put in my best effort in learning. How would you recommend getting the necessary research experience?

I think your best bet would be to approach faculty you know (or have taken classes with) from your current institution and offer to assist with research work. If you've already tried this, then add graduate students in your target field of interest to those whom you approach. As well, look at faculty web pages for hints as to faculty you might not have had as instructors, but who might be engaged in work you find interesting; approach them as well. Finally, your institution may have a dean or vice president for research; I'd suggest you contact their office as well.
There may be listservs or other groups in your field that may yield some fruitful alliances.

It is very appreciable, besides R programming you need first of all to understand throughly the basic concepts. As for my opinion is considered i feel it is actually the basic concepts which make you ready , further i would like to reiterate that doing Ph d is not a big deal. If you have will 50 percent is done.
