hi every body. How can I find the points in diphthongs to get F1 and F2 and plot them?i need a simple way.
I have read some paper which explain about 20% and 80% points in diphthongs. But i have problem in finding these points. does it mean a point or range of points in diphthongs?
Not entirely sure what you mean. I think what the paper refers to is that if you measure F1 and F2 at a timepoint 20 % in the vowel (duration) and then again at 80% of the vowel duration you can see that diphthongs differ from monophthongs. Of course one can plot these values in whatever software (R, Praat, Guplot..., Excel) you want (x-axis duration in percent, y axis F1 or F2). It is also common to plot diphthongs in a flipped figure with f1 (y-axis) and f2 (x-axis) going from lower to higher values. see files i sent

Well you could of course measure over a number of formant values e.g. between 15-25% and then between 75-85% of the duration. I guess that would make your calculation more reliable.
