Don't forget Mexico, which had the first successful socialist revolution, beginning in 1910. It didn't work out so well, full of assassinations, military coups, corruption and bureaucratic intransigence. Still, it lifted the yoke of feudalism.
When you speak of "scale", are you looking for metrics? What types of measures? Literacy? Health care? Manufacturing capacity? GDP?
Nguyen, do I understand correctly that you want to measure (scale) socialist history? If so on what criteria or factors?
Jon, Mexico was not the first. Have you forgotten France? That was the first socialist revolution whether or not one call is successful. Yet there is a grand contradiction in your statements re Mexico that it was "successful," then follow that with "It didn't work out so well..."
