Im simulating the response of a 2D composite beam in plane strain and I'm having a result that doesnt make sence from the analytical point of view. I'm fairly new to abaqus, so I'm not sure if I am extracting the right data.
I think that S11, S22, S33 are the normal stresses in the x, y and z direction and that S12 is the shear stress in the xy direction. However, when I evaluate how the shear stress changes through the thickness of the beam I get that the maximum values are at the ends of the beam, similar to what I would expect for S22. I thought that the maximum value for the shear stress would be found in the neutral axis of the beam, so I am confused.

The amount of lack of conformity (as measured by the difference in strain energy due to
transverse displacements) introduced by the arrangement of having two two-noded Timoshenko beams meeting a 10-noded tetrahedral soil element side is lower than if Timoshenko beams with three nodes (two end nodes and a mid-side node) were to be used. It is, however, higher than if the two-noded Timoshenko beams were used in conjunction with 20-noded tetrahedral soil elements.

To model composite beams, it is better to use a general-purpose cross-sectional analysis code such as VABS which will not only give you the corresponding beam stiffness matrix but also all the six stress/strain components.
