How can I extract high amount of RNA from a shoot and rhizome of a desert plant?

I have used Qiagen company protocol (RNeasy plant mini kit) to extract the shoot and rhizome of the desert plant am working with (Cyperus conglomeratus)..

The results were 2 faint bands for the shoot sample and no bands for the rhizome sample.
