In complex or fluxional environments the coupling can sometimes be lost. In your case the nanoparticles will be stabilized by surfactants if in solution which could influence things. The size and concentration of the nanoparticles will also affect the signal you get.
I agree with Prof. David. The number of peaks depends on the environement and temperature also. If you measure at low temp and low concentration then only u may get the hyperfine lines.
