First I must tell you that you must consider what is the purpose of your research, if for example you are comparing between treatments for the same soil or if you compare different soils. Secondly you should select those indicators that reflect quality changes in the soil according to the research objective (eg if the soil has quality for a given crop, if the soil quality improved or worsened relative to an initial starting point of this). The selected indicators should be sensitive enough to reflect changes in soil quality that you want to detect, prior to this you must have a data base, with many soil properties with the most potential analysis and thus able to select the most significant.

First of all you should tell us your purpose of investigating soil quality. For example, in studies which focus on water requirement of crops, the best soil is the one which can hold a lot of amount of water and release it easily for crop consumption. In these kind of studies total available water can be a useful index for quantifying soil quality.
