Hello,everyone! I want to know the melting point of xFe2O3-yCr2O3-zAl2O3 tenary solid solution. However, no available phase diagram of this tenary system can be found, nor I have the pure sample of this phase for testing. How can I know its melting temperature? And what's the relationship between the melting point of solid solution phase and the individual melting point of three end members (i.e. Fe2O3, Cr2O3, Al2O3)? Thank you!
All three double system (Fe2O3-Al2O3, Fe2O3-Cr2O3, Cr2O3-Al2O3) does not contain a eutectics, so the minimum melting temperature of the ternary system is the melting temperature of the Fe2O3 - 1566°C.Real refractories of system Al2O3-Cr2O3-Fe2O3 have a high content of Al2O3 and a melting point > 1700°C.
In compositions with a high content of Cr2O3 (>10%), there is a problem with evaporation of Cr2O3 at temperatures above 1100°C.

What about the melting points of 0.7Fe2O3-0.2Cr2O3-0.1Al2O3 and 0.4Cr2O3-0.3Fe2O3-0.3Al2O3？Are there any available relation formulas for calculating the melting point of this kind of solid solutions? Or can we calculate from three binary systems (Fe2O3-Al2O3, Fe2O3-Cr2O3, Cr2O3-Al2O3）？
Hi Yang, I do not think there are enough accurately information for a exact calculate the melting temperature of the two compaunds via the binary diagrams. Furthermore, the melting point of real (natural) chromites is strongly depends on the content of impurities: SiO2, Alkalis, CaO,MgO and others. I believe that the melting temperature of both compounds is not lower than 1650°C, but for accurate determination are experiments necessary.

Dear Congcong Yang, Try to find a paper with the three oxides + the keyword "Calphad". If you are lucky, you find thermodynamic properties for this ternry with the equations to use. Although you will not be able to solve them analitically, you can solve them numerically. Alternatively, you can look at Factsage software, purchase it or ask for their help. George
