I want to measure MS from my laboratory incubation soil sample. Is it possible to do MS from small amount of soil (e.g., 10g). Kind advices are highly appreciable. Is there any small scale laboratory technique to do MS?
I think it depends very much of the kind of magnetometer you have. There are models which can read samples of little sizes. The important think is having homogeneous samples, that is, if you have little plastic-cubes you can put your soil inside the cube (the filler the better, your cube don't have to seem a salt shaker).
In my experience, you have to take lecture as soon as you fill the cubes, after several week the soil start to settle to the bottom and you must to re-fill the cubes again. Whitin the little cubes you can spend even 7 g. of soil (according to the bulk density, of course).
Well, you can use a MS2B® Dual Frequency Sensor. Have a look in this link (http://www.bartington.com/ms3.html) as you might find more interesting lab sensors in order to perform your measurements.
