how can i differentiate the resistive switching whether it is uni polar or bipolar from the I-V graph. i plot both i v/s v and log |i| v/s log v.
is there any basic difference...?

unipolar vs. bipolar is easy to discern ('normal' I/V applies): if I differs significantly in only one quadrant, operation is unidirectional. Typically this will be the 1st quadrant.
If you get an I/V curve where I differs significantly in two quadrants (typ. 1st and 3rd), its operation is bidirectional.
Why didn't I use the term 'bipolar'? This is usually reserve to express whether you apply only voltages ≧ 0 or whether you apply +- voltages.
(The 'bipolar transistor' does not fit this scheme: there the term 'bipolar' was used to express that there are 2 types of charge carriers: electrons and holes. This aspect cannot be decided upon by means ofI/V curves.)

First thing, lets take this from basic terms. Generally we categorize unipolar and bipolar resisitve switching depending on the polarity used to create the ON state and get it to OFF state. If you are able to switch ON in one polarity (say -Ve for example) and switch OFF in the same polarity its Unipolar switching.
As for Bipolar, example..you switch ON in one direction (negative voltage) and Switch OFF in the other polarity (positive). This is just a simplistic way to define Unipolar and Bipolar Switching and the same represented in a I-V curve
Just add-on, the operation is bidirectional for bipolar
the whole thing remains same if u plot I-V or Semi logarithmic I-V
