Reading from literature, I found many papers about "pedotransfer function on soil water" and their clever uses. Something that I don't understand how the model taken from van Genuchten (1980) is used into development of the pedotransfer function.
I'm working with a database with almost 600 soil profiles with complete physical and chemical parameters from my country, and would like to develop a PTF similar.
If someone could help me, I would be very grateful.

There a bulk of literature dealing with pedotransfer functions in relation to determine water characteristics based on soil characteristics that can be easily measured. One of the widely used was developed by Saxton et al. I suggest you refer to those for instance K. E. Saxton and W. J. Rawls, 2005 (Soil Water Characteristic Estimates by Texture and Organic Matter for Hydrologic Solutions) and the tools they had developed earlier.

You will find attached three papers that developed pedotransfer function to model soil water characteristics. The pedotransfer functions from Katterer et al. 2006 and Rawls et al. 2003 worked best with my soils. Acutis and Donateli (2003) developed a free and easy to use software that could be tested as well on your soils.
