I am a junior research fellow in the department of Chemical Engineering, Nit Durgapur. I want to know that how can I determine various metal such as Fe, Cr, Mg, Mn, Pb concentration present in used lubricating oil by AAS? How can I prepare stock solution of all these metals which are present in used lubricating oil.

Sayantan... used lube oil is a complex material in nature and consists of mineral as well as organic and hydrocarbon parts. The AAS determination of metals in lube oil required the transformation into aqueous solution to be fed to the AA spectrophotometer. one of the approaches is the use of some additives. Example:
