As i am simulating a vertical axis 3 foils turbine , im getting at each airfoil the lift and drag , then reaching the torque on each, so how can I know this turbine will turn or not , any standards?
You need to include the blade lift and drag into a larger flow model, one that accounts
for the rotation of the blades, and that also includes parasitic drag on the radial arms, among other things.
You have a variety of models to choose from, from simple momentum models, like the double multiple streamtube model, to sophisticated CFD models.
Be aware that the VAWT might not be able to accelerate through a tipspeed ratio of about 1.0 unless the turbine solidity is high, or if you allow the blades to pitch.
DEAR LEO , THANKS FOR THIS EXPLANATION , ITS VERY USEFULL , IM USING ANSYS FLUENT 16.0, DO YOU KNOW HOW TO KNOW HOW TO SEE IF THE 3 BLADES WILL ROTATE OR WHAT METHOD I HAVE TO USE.
