I think you can check the patents of "Method for determining content of calcium carbonate in cigarette paper" and " Method for quickly measuring content of calcium carbonate in paper through headspace gas chromatography".
Disintegate a sufficient amount /a few g/ of moisture free paper and weight it into the Erlenmayer flask. Add distilled H2O /50 - 100 ml/, stirr the suspension for a while, add 5 ml of conc. HCl /this is to decompose CaCO3/ and stirr the contents a few min. Let the suspension to sediment. After an hour neutralise the excess of HCl with dilluted NH4OH /on methylorange/ and let it stay for another hour. Then separate the defibered paper from extract via filtration or centrifugation. Wash the disintegrated paper with distilled water and combine extract with washing waters.
Reduce their volume of a dilluted extract by approx. 50 % /via rotavap/ , add excesive amount of oxalic acid /1 g might do/ and stirr the extract till oxalic acid dissolution. This will precipitate calcium oxalate. Place the extract into refrigerator for several hours. Then separate calcium oxalate cristals using glas sintered crucible S4 for filtration, wash the product with cold water.
Place the crucible with calcium oxalate into the baker, add 20 ml of distilled water and 30 ml of 20 % H2SO4 , heat it to 70 oC and determine contents of calcium oxalate by 0.02 M solution of KMnO4.
Calcium in calcium oxalate can be also determined using complexo-metric titration, or better by flame photometry /band at 422,67 nm/. There are also more sophisticated methods for Ca determination /chromatographic ones/. What is important, however, is the total release of Ca from CaCO3 from the paper samples.
TAPPI (the Technical Association of the Pulp & Paper Industry www.tappi.org) has a standard Test Method that can be purchased by members or non-members:
Qualitative (including optical microscopic) analysis of mineral filler and mineral coating of paper, Test Method TAPPI/ANSI T 421 om-12
Go to the web site and search for T 421 and this will bring up the page where you can purchase it.
TAPPI also has a very large number of other Test Methods - the subject list can be found at http://www.tappi.org/content/pdf/standards/subject_index_tms.pdf
