Two possibilities:

1/ You must give them an iron rich diet.

2/ You inject (s.c.) them with an iron dextran solution. Iron destran is taken by macrophages and then released into the bloodstream.

I suggest to use the diet which is more "natural" than iron dextran.

I never used ferrous sulphate so i don't know. Probably it should be OK.

subcutaneous ... but it is probably harder in fish than in mouse!
