Is it possible to count cells in this kind of images with Fiji (ImageJ)? I tried to adjust the images in different ways but I never get a good image to count the cells with "analyze particles". Or does anyone know other free software to count cells?

Thanks for posting! When I first saw this image, I didn't have much hope - since it is one of the more challenging ones I have seen. However, I was able to use MIPAR (http://mipar.us) to develop a recipe which does a nice job of finding and counting your cells.
I have attached this recipe, along with some screenshots, and images. Just open the image in MIPAR's Image Processor, and load the recipe. This will automatically find and count your cells, but let's you easily customize and view the non-destructive recipe of steps.
MIPAR offers a 30-day free trial, but is not free indefinitely. I suppose it's up to you and your advisor if such capabilities are worth investing in. I am here anytime if you need further recipe assistance or have any questions at all.
