I have tried different options in word to preserve high fidelity in images when converting to pdf. I use the word option to 'print to pdf'. Nothing works to preserve image quality and some of the images in the pdf look blurred which is nothing like what they looked like in word. I already set default resolution to high fidelity and for images not to be compressed.
Please, can someone suggest a way to make the pdf like the original word, or another software that can enable this. Thank you

I observe from your post that you have already changed the default settings to high fidelity and for images not to be compressed.
Setting 'not to be compressed' may not be the best.
Additional settings for monochrome, colored or gray scale for images would need to be stated.
One is required to do lot of juggling with settings and see what works for one the best. With each setting the file size for same page (text + image), changes. Check for the settings which has the largest file size.
Check for Conversion and Advanced settings as shown in the attached figure.
If already done and still no joy, buy Acrobat.

Thank you for your comment.No, I haven't used Foxit. Free trial is generally a good idea. Usually it comes with truncated features.
Personally I would prefer OEM. Acrobat and Adobe reader are from the same company. I am also not sure about the price difference between the two, that could be the final deciding factor.

The version of Word that I have - just standard for the last few years - has the option that you can save the file as a pdf or print it to a pdf file (so that's what it does rather than get a copy on paper. I find that also works adequately for this purpose.
What causes image quality loss in converting Word to PDF?
When you start the conversion process using Word, the images will compress automatically, which lowers their quality unless you change the default settings. To change the settings:
If you’re on Windows, you’ll have a choice for how to optimize. Choose Standard (publishing online and printing). In the Options menu, select “Optimize for image quality” and deselect “PDF/A compliant.”
If you’re on a Mac, you won’t have any of these options for exporting a Word document as a PDF. However, you can select the option titled “Best for printing.”
