When I read literatures about fiber/matrix interfaces strength measurement, most experiment give the measurement values in terms of interfacial shear strength because usually the experiment was done using microbond, push out, or pull out test of a single fiber. Some example are paper from Thomason et al or Zhuang et al.

However, when we want to use it for input data of cohesive element model, we need to input 2 values, i.e. maximum normal strength and maximum shear strength. From what I understand IFSS is the maximum shear strength for the fiber/matrix interface (correct me if i am wrong). How can I get the maximum normal strength for the interface? Is there any way to convert it from IFSS to maximum normal strength (e.g. maximum normal strength = IFSS/1.3 or something?)? or Are they the same?

Appreciate your input
