To convert a DEM (GEOTIFF) file in an STL file:

install qgis ( https://www.qgis.org ) for any platform.

run qgis with new empty project.

open the DEM file: >layer>add raster>file.tiff

export to SLT using DEMtoSTL plugin: >raster>DEMto3D

In Linux platform the plugin DEMto3D must be installed from the plugin management:

>plugins>manage and install plugins>DEMto3D
