I use tert-butyl ammonium iodide as a phase transfer catalyst for azidation of PEG. I can remove most of the left over catalyst using a DCM+water extraction. But traces of the catalyst are present most of the time. How can I get rid of it completely?

What molar mass does the PEG possess? If the Mw is not too high you could filter over a silica gel column.

Dialysis with several changes of solution would work if your PEG is of a high enough molecular weight.

Thank you. Silica gel column worked pretty well although I am loosing some product. May be I will also try the other procedures.
