The designed microstrip patch offered a gain of 4dbi. I want to know the coverage area for the designed microstrip patch. Simply saying the coverage distance of the directional antenna as 1 to 2 miles is correct. If not provide broader analysis on the same?
to do that you need to know the input power and the power density that is required for adequate coverage. The power density around the horizon (that is usually what people mean by omnidirectional - you can't have a true omnidirectional antenna with 4 dB gain) will be 4 dB higher than if the input power was uniformly spread in all directions (true omnidirectional) so at any range the power density = 2.5*input power/4/pi/range2 You have coverage if this is high enough to do what you want. The 2.5 is what 4 dB means.

How about doing an internet search for the term "antenna coverage", choosing the articles that look relevant and then reading them?
