Triphala is a famous ayurvedic preparation used against stomach disorders. It is prepared from fruits of Phyllanthus emblica (Aonla), Terminalia bellerica (Bahera) and Terminalia chebula (Hurra). You can buy Triphala from Swasthya Vardhak Pharmacy Pvt. Ltd., Kandwa, Varanasi-221 006, Uttar Pradesh, India
Triphala is a common Ayurvedic mixture widely used for the treatment of stomach ailments. it is available in any ayurvedic shop. for authentic specimen you contact with the Patanjali Ayurvedic organisation they can give you the authentic sample, besides this you may collect it from the ayurvedic outlets of RamKrishna Mission Narendrapour, Kolkata shop.
If you have the three components with you i.e. Harad, Baheda and Amla, you can just powder them and mix in equal proportions to get triphala powder. No need to buy from market. Buy the crude drugs, powder them and mix them. 2 kg is very easily possible.
I think Dr. Nahata is right. Try to formulate your own Triphala, then compare it with market one. You can never judge any herbal formulation authenticity till it is evaluated for quality control parameters.
You can prepared triphalla easily why u r going to market . You can collect the fruits of Awala ( Emblica officinalis ), Hirda ( Terminalia chebula), and Behada ( Terminalia belerica), Dry it in sunlight, then grind it in and make powder. This is an original authentic poweder, always good than market.
In market the crude drug 'Triphala' is available in powdered form. It is difficult to judge the authenticity and purity id any powdered drug purchased from the market. The fine powders are always sieved. More over, Amala used in powdering may be processed one as boiled and removal of seed portion. Seeds coat is hard and most often left out after sieved. This is true for all three fruit components of 'Triphala'. I agreed the collection of field sample or procurement of complete fruits and powdered them in using in equal weight proportion.
There are two ways to procure Triphala 1- you can purchase the three ingredients and prepare your self Triphala powder. 2- You can purchase from Arya Vaidya Sala Kottakal as suggested by Dr.Rao.
The fruits will be easy to authenticate than the powder form of the drug. These authenticated fruits can be powdered(Upto desirable sieve size) and mixed in an homogenizer. This will give a standard Triphala powder.
Best collect a voucher and bulk material and have it well identified. Then if possible use the bilk material to get an extract profile, e.g. per mass spec, and with that compare to extract profiles. Otherwise get a DNA sequence from your authenticated voucher and use that for comparison to samples in commerce. This of course is more cost and laboratory intensive.
The traditional way would be to do a microscopic analysis of an authenticated sample and try to find characters that would help to verify powders.
Fruits of Terminalia chebula, Terminalia bellerica and Emblica officinalis can identify easily any person in India . In my opinion better to collect wild fruits and powdered it your self .
It is difficult to know if the seeds were also ground together with the fruit. Seeds shouldn't be used. I would like to know a source of supplier who doesn't grind the seed.
Triphala is freely available in India and Sri Lanka. You can purchase all three ingredients separately as dried fruits. Then take pericarps and powder them separately and mixed in equal amounts.
