What kind of stations do you mean? Meteorological stations or other types of stations? And are you using a lumped model (with some elevation and vegetation zones) or a (semi-)distributed model?

You might firstly use the most simple model set-up (lumped, without vegetation and elevation zones) to simulate the rainfall-runoff behavior of your catchment. Then, depending on the availability and quality of meteo, discharge and spatial (e.g. land use, topography) data, you can gradually make your model more complex for instance by including sub-catchments, elevation zones and vegetation zones.

Many thanks for the reply.

I have a catchment with 5000 km2 Area. There are 4 meteorological stations in the catchment (with P, T and ET0 values).

With the previous HBV model, there was this possibility to add the stations and their weights to the model. I was wondering if it is possible to do so in the HBV light?

For now, I am doing the simple model. However, in the manual, there is no tip for the calibration.

For the previous HBV model, it was saying to follow these steps for the calibration

1. Volume parameters

2. Snow parameters

3. Soil parameters

4. Response parameters

5. Damping parameters

Would you please let me know if I'd better follow these steps, in HBV-light too?

Before the calibration, I would recommend to carry out a sensitivity analysis to determine the most important parameters for model calibration. Although most models including HBV require a multivariate sensitivity analysis because of parameter interdependencies, a univariate sensitivity analysis will already be very useful for this purpose. Depending on the outcome of the sensitivity analysis, I would calibrate 4-5 parameters preferably using a global optimization algorithm (or local optimization algorithm with different initializations). In case you would like to execute a manual calibration, then firstly calibrate (dominant/ important) parameters influencing the water balance and subsequently determine parameters influencing the hydrograph shape. This also might mean that you use multiple objective functions in the sensitivity analysis and calibration focusing on different aspects (e.g. water balance and hydrograph shape).
