I am writing a python script to interact with the browser. I want the same script to run analysis on ABAQUS CAE.
Can it be done ?
Right now, I am using the python interpreter inside the ABAQUS CAE to write code, or ABAQUS PDE, or the Run script option to run python scripts.
Are the objects like parts, models, odbs of an abaqus model accessible outside ABAQUS ?
Yo can do what you want, but it is not straightforward. I have been able to call phyton scripts since Matlab and feed data to abaqus and read results from abaqus. You can call script from the command line for example in this way: c:\temp\abaqus cae script=EXAMPLE MDB.py, or since other program, in matlab would be something like: system(['abaqus cae ','noGUI','=C:\Tmp\EXAMPLEMDB.py']);. Using macros in abaqus is an easy way to develop scripts in abaqus.
Don't think so. Probably due to licensing issues. For example, if it was available outside, there would need to be a mechanism to pull a license from the license server. That mechanism is abaqus viewer or cae.
On the other hand it is possible to use the abaqus c++ api outside of abaqus. Therefore it should be possible to call the abaqus c++ Api from python by using a tool such as Cython. But this would require writing your own interface between python and c++.

@Richard : Executing a command like
c:\temp\abaqus cae script=EXAMPLE MDB.py
would be like running abaqus from command line, and so this line can be run from any environment, python or otherwise.
Have you also, tried getting output by this method, i.e. read the odb file in a similar way ?
Can you share a minimal example of how you did this ?
I have not tried to open odt file since command line, it will be a craziness, because you don't need all the data base, i have made scripts to extract just the needed data. Look the example in attached files. One file (example.py) execute the model and other (readcor.py) read data. I hope this will be useful.

You can of course run your script using Richard's way, which uses CAE operations to extract and save the data. Abaqus also provides you with python access to the odb without CAE.
I have attached a script which gets U2 and RF2 for a single node nodeset from the last frame of the odb to a csv file. To run the script, you go
abaqus python pilot-node-data-extraction.py -o -n
This method is convenient since you can pass arguments, which you cannot do when running cae from the command line.
