I collected 10 ASAR images of a shallow (max 6 meter deep, mean depth 3) lagoon and, apart from 2 ones, the lagoon surface doesn't show a smooth appearance, that is it is full of speckle.

The water lagoon surface can still be distinguished by the land, since it shows - in mean - values 50% lower than the land ones. However since the objective is to detect seasonal vegetation growing on the lagoon surface, the high speckle make it very difficult.

What can be the cause of such high speckle? To understand that could help in better selecting further SAR data to be used (first of all the Sentinel-1's).
