We have conducted a reasearch with High School students, which consists of an initial test to check previous knowledge, a short intervention and an application activity to check understanding.
We've submitted it for publication, and one of the referees has suggested us to provide details on " the validity and reliability of the application activity apart from some double coding".
Any suggestion?
This is tricky because validity and reliability are quantitative concepts that would not traditionally be applied to a qualitative analysis. If, however, you are using your qualitative data as a "measure" of something, then these criteria might apply. With regard to reliability, I think you should supply some citations on inter-rater reliability, since that is indeed the traditional approach for assessing the reliability of a qualitative measure.
With regard to validity, in quantitative terms, this would typically consist of an appropriate set of predicted correlations (i.e., construct validity). This only makes sense in your case if you counted things that could indeed be correlated with other variables in your data set.

In order to develop the reliability and validity of a questionnaire, the answers of the questions need to be transformed to numerical values. Otherwise, these measures cannot be developed.
