A traditional medicine (e.g. Unani System of Medicine) has its own philosophy of treatment of a disease. Nowadays, there is emerging demand to validate the effectiveness of an intervention (a plant medicine or traditional procedure) in terms of science and evidence set as standard. there is a little focus on the philosophy applied for the therapeutic purpose.
Traditional medicine is the ancient and culture–bound medical practice which existed in human societies before the application of modern science to health. The practice of traditional medicine varies widely, in keeping with the societal and cultural heritage of different countries. Every human community responds to the challenge of maintaining health and treating diseases by developing a medical system. Thus, traditional medicine has been practised to some degree in all cultures.
Traditional medicines and Modern Medicines are DIFFERENT subjects, so require DIFFERENT type of thinking in every aspects. Their mechanism of action, production system etc. should also be different. Here is an explanation:
The contemporary pattern followed for development of chemical as well as semi-herbal medicines:
Diluent/ Chemical extraction/other source derived materials →primary level efficacy study → active constituent isolation → final safety and efficacy study → proceeding towards development of marketable medicines.
It may be shifted to a new pattern of study for succulent biomedicines
Succulent bio-medicines →in vivo or/and in-patient study for validation of efficacy → dose and safety study → chemical composition analysis.

Traditional medicines work in a trend so that its outcome includes only returning the conditions to normal, like if we take an example of consuming a particular traditional medicine to stop vomiting ..the medicine does the work to stop it, but we don't know the exact compound responsible for the action and we also don't know the side effects of the other components in the medicine on a wide range of population having allergies to various components of it, which may lead to other complication and may manifest into some other form of aliment in long run. Hence there is a need for validation and testing the effectiveness of traditional medicine and its interactions.
In the end, all disciplines of medicine need only one thing, effective treatment of their patients.

But I am TOTALLY disagreeing with the ONGOING (CONTEMPORARY) concept and systems followed to validate the Chemical medicines and Traditional medicines same manner. The same system used to validate the Chemical (synthetic) medicines are copy-pasted for validation of traditional medicines.
IT IS TOTALLY WRONG.
As I stated in my previous comment, the two separate systems need separate chambers of our brain for consideration of the whole processes between validation of claims for medicinal activity up to the development of marketable medicine.
Suppose, if the eating of the paste of the succulent Turmeric (Curcuma longa) 5 grams daily is able to cure pimples and other skin diseases, and if it is found non-toxic in this therapeutic dose even at regular one year use, THE IDENTIFICATION OF ACTIVE INGREDIENTS OR COMPOUNDS ARE NOT IMPORTANT FOR VALIDATION OF EFFICACY. It can be marketed directly as medicine!
The requirement of identification of the chemical composition of Turmeric is important in other areas of use of Traditional medicine, but not for the treatment of patients directly.
