Motivation most often comes from within, we need to know our students and try to find ways to make 'retaking' valuable. Something like leading a house to water and making them drink. We have to find the salt!
Dear Dr., again it is an interesting discussion points.
Here are some things that we are trying to do for attracting the students and increase their learning motivation in a course.
Thorough preparation of the material and well organized lecture/training and excellent materials such as hand outs, other things printed helped a lot.
Involving the whole team and dissecting the problem/issues and giving responsibility to each member to look after the specific part and then report back was also very helpful.
Prepairing extremely well for my lectures, with graphs/ and other other audio visuals, and tried my best to make it as simple as I could.
Very seldom, there were people who were not interested or disengaged, I did not insult or made some hard remarks, but I respectfully listened and answered to their not do good question/s.
Be sure to keep them engaged if I could and eventually they did.
Positive feed back, nodes. friendly advice and recognizing their efforts worked also.
Encouraged after lecture, talk, questions and light talk about anything.
Also encouraged them to see in my office and some times I did go for coffee in the cafeteria.
Use very nice and motivational quotations about success and never giving up, and about strong teams, here and there I used proverbs also.
In my working career there was one tough guy and I mean real tough, he had lot of followings in the plant, and his support could make or break, in the beginning he was not receptive but he came around. I believe he realized that this guy (me ) is working very hard to work together, and he changed, rest they say was history, my every project was roaring success, I never ever took the credit for it, I gently pass it on the team, that it was a team effort.
These are some of my thoughts, when I went in my business I have a few associates ( my help), they are extremely committed and I kept the same team spirit, team winning, and employee center management, I treat them as equal team members and I have never ever looked back. We established very strong bonds, and excellent relationships.
