I recently followed a discussion on the relationship between a Ph. D. student and the mentor. What I consider more important than a Ph. D. guide during a doctorate program is the lab. colleague with whom we spend more time. I, very unluckily, had the nightmare of having such a colleague whose body is not made of cells, tissues, organs or organ systems but politics and only dirty politics. The moment we had to part away from each other was the best moment of my life. Yes, I was lucky enough to have a number of good ones but all of us were the victims of the same venomous creature. It became more unfortunate when the mentor inclined towards the one who was incompetent, deceptive and poisonous. Many big shots also religiously played their respective roles to push him ahead.
