We are thinking to use a combination of an electric pressure regulator and a pneumatic cylinder to exerce compressional force on disc shape samples. Does anyone have an experience with electric regulators with high resolution. I would like to know what is the maximum accuracy that one can get in such system.

There are different types of electro-pneumatic regulators for different applications depending on the supply pressure and the set pressure. These are regulators with very high accuracy.
The Linearity is ± 1% of Full Scale (FS) or less
Hysteresis is ± 0.5% of FS or less
Repeatability is ± 0.5% of FS or less
Sensitivity is 0.2% of FS or less
