let us first (without any dilution) look what thickness of your material (having starting concentration of 5mg/ml) do you need in order to achieve a surface coverage of 5µg/cm²:

(via: concentration * thickness = surface coverage)

5mg/ml *d = 5µg/cm² ---> d = 5µg/cm² *1/(5mg/ml)=10-3 cm= 10-2 mm

For a surface are of 1,12cm²=112mm² you will therefore need a volume of

V = d*112mm2= 10-2mm* 112mm² =1,12mm³ of undiluted material per insert.

Depending on the type of your pipette you have got available you may dilute by a factor of 10: then you have to take 11,2mm³ of your diluted sample per insert.

For a dilution of 100 you have to take 112mm³=0,112ml and for a dilution of 1000 you have to take 1120mm³=1,12ml of your diluted sample.

I am not familar with your chemistry. Therefore I am not able to give advice which solvent you should take, sorry for that. (But for this you may ask your colleagues at your institution)

..... Meanwhile I have searched for the datasheet. So for dilution please have a look at that datasheet.

In the section 'Thin coating procedure' at the lower right of page 1 (point 2. ....) you see that acetic acid (20mM) is used there.
