WHO’s first release of surveillance data on antibiotic resistance reveals high levels of resistance to a number of serious bacterial infections in both high- and low-income countries. Though efforts are underway, the condition is posing big challenge in the fight against infectious disease. How the scientific community and other relevant stakeholders could curb the problem.

Antibiotic resistance is a natural phenomenon that becomes prevalent with increased use of antibiotics. Curbing inappropriate and unnecessary antibiotics by implementing and promoting Antimicrobial Stewardship program (inpatient and outpatient) at the institutional and national level is probably the only available solution. IDSA has published guidelines.
With a rational restrictive use of antibiotic in the comment daily practice
Judicious use of available resources is the only one possible answer in times of scarcity and crisis. Same applies here. Stewardship is the steward in this field. However bacteria will have their ways to propagate resistance mechanisms and express their intrinsic ones but we should not hasten it by our ignorance or prejudice.
In most cases, the rational restrictive use of antibiotics remains as a principle unless it is tied with applied rules. This is what I have been experiencing in my setting, Ethiopia.
Antibacterial surveillance and clonal characteristics of resistance genes within your area are good tools for policy driven drug control. Effective monitoring and drug control will break the chain of spread of resistance genes vertically and horizontally among bacteria. Efforts are intensified at discovering newer antibiotics globally.
It is a difficult task but is the best to achieve its continuous increase
Antibiotic stewardship to prevent misuse of antibiotics and the waste of unnecessary use, as well as good infection control to prevent nosocomial infections are equally important in this war between the humans and bacteria.
Rational use of antibiotics , infection control and prevention , health education , surveillance of antibiotic resistance , implementation of antibiotic policy are important key points.
