Help with the outline of experiment: Soil turnover in ants (Formicidae: Hymenoptera)?

Hi there everyone,

Pleased to be a part of the community.

I am currently writing my dissertation which explores the soil turn over in several ant species and comparing different rates. I've started by doing initial pilot tests to deduce factors such as appropiate colony sizes (i.e. power analysis), replicates and general experimental design.

I wanted to ask for perhaps, community members opionions' on how I could further devise the experimental design for stage 2 to calculate exact soil turnover rate and bioturbation effects across different ant species? Literature seems to be limited and so obtaining possible reference ideas on the conduct of such an experiment, is proving tricky.

Any help, is appreciated and of course depnding on extent, will include yourself in the referencing.
