Hello everyone, How can we measure internal resistance of Microbial fuel cell?

I am working on Two chambered MFC. I want to know, when we close the circuit of MFC, we apply resistance randomly or we first calculate Cell's internal resistance and then apply resistance in accordance with cell's internal resistance?
