Aspergillus niger is a very potential bio-control agent in agriculture to control disease and pest. But it has some ill effects on human and animals. For people with healthy immune systems, breathing in Aspergillus isn’t harmful. However, for people who have weakened immune systems, breathing in Aspergillus spores can cause an infection in the lungs or sinuses which can spread to other parts of the body. The symptom is called ''Aspergillosis''. Aspergillus niger has been reported as causing ear, nose and lung infection particularly in immuno-compromised individuals.
Due to their small size, about 70 % of spores of A. fumigatus are able to penetrate into the trachea and primary bronchi and close to 1 % into alveoli. Inhalation of spores of Aspergillus is a health risk. Aspergillus clavatus is allergenic causing the occupational hypersentivity pneumonitis known as ''malt worker’s lung''.
Conidiobolus (C.) coronatus, C. incongrues, C. lamprauges and B. ranarum.
These species may cause entomophthoromycosis. There is even a case report of a suspected laboratory infection (http://mmy.oxfordjournals.org/content/49/4/427.full)
