I have tried to use LFSI salt in my cathode system but the coating appears grainy and I see the Al through very small tiny holes. I am using NMP as solvent and PVDF as binder. I have tried ball milling the slurry as well as tried to make it conventionally using mortar and pestle but the grains remain. This happened even after heated drying in the vacuum oven overnight as well as for a few days. I also tried different compositions varying active material concentration from 30 wt% - 80 wt%. I have attached a picture as well. I am using a doctor blade of thickness 200 μm. Thank you.

After Giang Nguyen , I suggest that the compaction process is necessary to bring the coated layer to desired density level that offer homogeneous morphology and density then free of defects . In this respect, I recommend you to go through the experiment section of the article by Viacheslav Barsykov and Volodymyr Khomenko on the following link . Now, let me a adopting the following paragraph from the experiment section to see that the drying process some time designed in two steps with layer compaction , drying at 120OC under air flow in order to evaporate the NMP then layer compaction and finally drying under a primary vacuum at 120OC for about 12 hours.
"The resulting slurry was cast onto a metal foil (0.02 mm thick). Doctor blade with a gap opening of 100-200 µm was used to define the maximum thickness of the freshly coated layer. The resulting film was dried at 120OC under air flow in order to evaporate the NMP. In some cases the electrodes were compacted to the desired density by calendaring. After compaction, the electrodes were dried again under a primary vacuum at 120OC in the time frame of 12 hours."
