I am studying the chemical interaction of hexamethyldisiloxane (HMDS) with dimethyl carbonate (DMC); both are liquids with low flash point (1 °C, for HMDS and 18 °C, for DMC) and boiling temperature 100 and 90 °C, respectively. My experiment requires mixing these two reagents, shaking and also I need to heat it up to 80 °C. In safety manual in sub-section “conditions to avoid” is mentioned TO AVOID heat, flames and sparks, extremes of temperature and sunlight for both - HDMS and DMC.

Can I heat the mixture of these two solvents up to 80 C in closed glass flask inside the shaker (which operates in water bath) (please see attached)?

Thank you!

Iryna.
