Your work is very interesting. I'm working in Galician hake since 2002 and I have always curiosity to know what was happening in Portugal. What I have observed in Galician hake is that there are 3 peaks of spawning: the main one between Jan-Mar, the second one between May-Jul and the third one between Sep-Oct. But these peaks may change between years, I mean, the winter peak can be in Jan in one year, but in Feb or March in the next one. I think this variability is an adatation to optimal environmental windows. You have pooled all years together and detect four peaks of spawning activity, but they can be an artifact because peaks of different years could be overlapped. I suggest you to analyze monthly variation of spawning fraction (that is the most adequate index of spawning activity) year by year. I would be pleased to discuss with you about regional differences in this amazing specie. All my best
