As about physics, at least in fundamental areas, situation can often be described by “We all say so, and so it must be true” (Rudyard Kipling, The Jungle Book.) Though an attempt to point at the handlers of the monkey crowd may cause problems.

*** Inquisition implies one dominant power seeking to stamp out freedom of thought. It doesn't describe science well at all. There is competition among powers and groups. The maverick is isolated, but not tortured for confession. Considerable freedom can be practiced within scholarly constraints when sensationalism is avoided and terminology is select to sanitize the publication.

*** Collaboration is the obvious remedy for avoiding isolation, but most fringe area writers are not able to acquire collaborators. Many of the best publications have a list of contributors.

*** Manipulation occurs in science on topics of highest concern like global warming where economic interests are at stake. So little confidence is placed in specialists who argue for or against it that a non specialist must look outside the dispute to find reliable data for making opinions. Before retirement I wrote an opinion for one of the worlds greatest private companies. The evidence is rock solid that warming is occurring, without quoting anything at all from the specialists who argue the point.

It must be an influence of human activities in climate issues, but we do not know its extent. However, I am not a specialist and I want to let climate research to be done by those researchers which are still objective and independent (hopefully, there are stil some...) But political manipulation is really the enemy of science. I remember Green Party politicians in Germany making publicly the following statement: "CO2 emision is killing our planet by global warming, SO in conclusion  we must accelerately halt the atomic energy devises." It is not a joke. They told this, and most of ellectors agreed. This is no logic in this statement, but politicians do not care. At another level, logically equivalent deductions are also done in Physics, specially when they want to justify funding some big project or award.

Of course, the climate and the weather are quite different things.

From experience it is logical to assume that there is a set of periodic processes on such a large scale that we do not know about them. However, not all the processes are periodic in nature.

From experience it is also not difficult to understand that a period of at least some of the processes certainly poorly aligned with the period of the existence of the individual and even of human civilization.

I have no serious involvement in climate research. But as a physicist I'm enough worried because of the following things:

• two graphs, wich is attached;
• knowledge, how much shaky any dynamic equilibrium;
• knowledge, that catastrophic changes in the system state are irreversible and occurs exponentially as avalanche;
• plus the Venus eloquent example on Earth's near orbit.

Some things force me to be paranoid.

It is necessary to realize that the paranoia is not characteristic of all people, most of whom could reckless attitude to the problem until the moment when the problem arise directly in front of them.

It is also necessary to realize that the exceptional expenditure of resources on identifying of cheerless prospects is equivalent to adding fuel to the fire and in the thermodynamic sense does not benefit the planet. It is necessary to rationally allocate resources between forecasting, propaganda and changes, as well as rationally predict optimal priority of changes and appropriate investitions.

PS: There are many problems associated with the bureaucracy in science. Surely they relate to climate research as well. Over time bureaucracy always grow up to marasmic level, in the same way as the inquisition had grown in its time. It has been covered in detail in the famous Parkinson's Law. One fine day some kind of catastrophe will also make reset for this counter again (-;

This subject is not my specific field, and what is more I do not know the relevant references. What I was able to recognise, the appearance of too many arthropod pests, practically many of them from southern countries, and the altered length, intensity of the seasons and the irregularity of weather. I have a feeling Hungary becomes a Mediterranean country but it has been a continental one. Of cause, this is not a scientific argumentation.    

 It is necessary for all researchers in climate change to make their data easily available to the public, so that the details can be discussed. The truth is in the details.

It is a fair question which I was contemplating for some time. 

There is much more general process to repeat bad patterns from the past associated with people's nature of following something but not thinking (herd mentality).

But it is not necessary a conspiracy. It is a property of the human population. The seeds of bad ideas are always there waiting for the fertile soil to grow. Like a contagious disease. No need of conspiracy for the outburst.

This happens in many forms. In science and in politics. Look at Poland deliberately and spontaneously reducing itself from a democratic state into a totalitarian dwarf because a few bad people seized the opportunity to spread bad ideas in the time of weakness. Look at Hitler, Putin, Look at ISIS. The same problem. Look at stupid ideas brainwashing general population into irrational views reducing their criticism to zero. The political correctness has the same origin.

I do believe that in some way despite incredible progress we go back to middle ages relatively in some way.

I did not say there is or is not conspiracy in this or another discipline. I said there are patterns of human behaviour on any side that result in a process of progress reversal.

Yes, the truth is in the details and if you lookup the details of CRUTEM4 raw data (for example) you will discover elephants inside!

But, then nobody will cite your work, because it departures from main stream belief, so, actually you become a heretic scientist and like Medieval era serious consequences follow.

(OK, they 'll not burn you on fire, but if you have no income and academic evolution, it has the same final result, you go away from the discipline).

Oh yes, I have realized after one year work what exactly means the phrase:

Demetris cites zerohedge in regards to a needed crisis before the world will wake up and realize that our planet can only recycle our pollution and garbage so fast.  Nature is quite resilient in being able to rebound after catastrophic extinctions, as I have studied for the Triassic-Jurassic boundary and Early Jurassic. 

I enjoyed reading Curt Stager's book, Deep Future, but it lacks an understanding of glacial and interglacial cycles.  If the past is any indication of our future, and humanity survives another 8,000 years, our descendants will experience another glacial cycle.  Our pollution of the atmosphere will not stop it.

In the middle of the previous Eemian Interglacial there was a 3k period of global warming where global temperatures reached 3-5 degrees hotter than today!  What caused that?  Read "Cold, Hard Facts" in Popular Science, June 2013: p. 31-32.  We need to know if it was a natural rise in temperatures or caused by an external agent, such as early man burning forests.  Or does the Earth's orbit shrink slightly and the Sun gets closer (and hotter) as mythology implicates (See Martinez, 2013: The Lost History of the Little People).

The CAMP (basal Jurassic Central Atlantic Magmatic Province - opening of the Atlantic Ocean) released an enormous amount of CO2 to the atmosphere just before a mass extinction event, during which as much as 85% of land and marine species went extinct.  It took a good 6-8 million years for life to rebound, and for that period floras and faunas were monotypic.  That is, only a few types of plants and animals made up habitats in many parts of the world.  That is when dinosaurs exploded in size as their coniferous food source rapidly expanded.  It was the refugia that preserved the diversity and allowed some species that became extinct elsewhere to slowly come back. 

It has been shown that the dinosaurs all did not become extinct at the Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary, because the eggs of some dinosaurs survived and hatched.  Dinosaur bones have been found in place in Paleocene strata of western North America as much as two million years after the dinosaurs disappeared as a major component of faunas.  But the mammals quickly took advantage of the open niches.  We are seeing foreign species invading new areas because of man deliberately or accidentally introducing them.  Whether we agree on human contribution to global warming or not, change has occurred and will continue to occur because of man.  We as humans will adapt, but most plants and animals will not be able to adapt to change as well or as fast as we can. Will we become the dinosaurs of the next Era?

65 million years ago there was a mass extinction, but local extinctions have been recorded around the world just before that finale (Chicxulub). Earth has experienced a major disruption or change about every 65 +/- 5 million years going back to the early Paleozoic.  We can mitigate or lessen our impact on the world, but we all need to realize that nature has a way of correcting an inbalance, and we are causing an inbalance.

With all of the scholarly debate my short answer is that I will never  be " forced to be 'good guys' and publish only what promotes the current politically correct view."  Somehow I survived undergrad, graduate school, and my Doctorate as a Conservative in the most liberal field in my land. 

An example: one of our esteemed colleagues posted back in 2016..."Tyson often has irritated people with tweets that sometimes makes Donald Trump’s seem reasonable."....My guess is that he may not have irratated that many...when we assume what other feel as if "we are experts in their point of view"...

My motto is:  The More I learn...The More I realize...I know very little.

On a personal level I once published an acknowledgement in one of my research papers and thanked "the Lord"....the faculty advised me that was inappropriate and may bring me trouble in the future....they suggested I used a spiritual name such as higher power or God...."  You can only guess what my answer was....

Personally I suffer because I am not the 'good boy for adviser's deliverables', so, despite my scientific contribution, there is a very slow process in getting the phd degree (yes, the 'paradise guards' keep the door tightly closed...)

Who knows, after many many publications, citations and scientific reputation, the 'guards' will unlock the door...
