Shifts and trend have a major impact on how business is conducted and how it is labeled. As the markets evolves, buzzwords come into play and similar to social media, the buzzwords go viral. For instance data science and analytics were the 'bleed edge' terms and strategies such as TQM was 3 years ago. How can we determine if these terms are here to stay or just shifting with the trends of popular buzzwordology?

So, while the two positions do coincide, neither is a replacement for the other, and a growth hacker may just be necessary before a traditional marketer in a business’s lifespan. Growth hackers simply have a narrowed objective and can therefore run various experiments in order to test their only goal: growth.
