By surveying the terrain of community colleges in higher education, I have found a a common theme of institutions develop or pay to develop many secondary and comprehensive 'master plans' to pacify the accreditation commission, but are they really being used? Is there literature that suggests a baseline standard that guides plan integration?
College is one of the biggest expenses in people's lives. It is a huge advantage to have money saved for college education. Even so, many graduates spend decades after college paying off their student loans. Having student loans to pay off (on top of other bills) while trying to start your post college career adds an incredible amount of undue stress and financial pressure. There is an increasing trend among those graduates wanting to take up management studies to go in for such higher education loans. The added advantage is that the interest gets deducted for the computation of their parent's Income tax liability.Another point is, the student need start paying back after one year of having landed a job,not before that. Various higher authorities have different standards for accreditation commission measurements. Usually they look for quality & not quantity. Agree with Krishnan Umachandran that it's a huge advantage to have money saved for college education. But the point I would like to make is that students & their parents have realized that just getting a graduation degree is not enough,as P.G. degree is needed, & has become the bench mark, as a doctoral degree is now more preferred by both the parties. A section of students try to avoid this route,as they would prefer to go for higher education either through inservice option or through distance education system.
I dont think that the first two answers are actually germane to the question posed and miss the point
in answer;
you are accurate in your interpretation some Colleges only do 5 or 10 year plans because that is what the accrediting bodies require. Many HE institutions wouldnt know a strategic plan if it fell over in front of them.
I dont know any work published in this area... its a very touchy issue
