White hydrogen is gained by SMR (Steam Machine Reforming), which currently is the most common method for producing hydrogen. This is economically feasible in many parts of the world. The cost of producing hydrogen through SMR varies depending on factors such as the cost of natural gas, the cost of electricity used in the process, and the efficiency of the SMR plant. However, in many cases, the cost of SMR-produced hydrogen is competitive with other forms of hydrogen production.

There are ongoing efforts to develop alternative, more sustainable methods of producing hydrogen, such as electrolysis using renewable energy sources like wind or solar power. These methods are still in the early stages of development, and their economic feasibility is not yet fully established. Nonetheless, as the cost of renewable energy continues to fall, it is likely that these alternative methods will become increasingly competitive with SMR.
