A small impression is taken with a clear PVS bite registration material before the tooth is prepared. That small impression is used as a die to reform the occlusal surface of the unset composite. Then light is transmitted through the clear matrix leaving a surface that is not air inhibited and needs little to no polishing, finishing or adjusting.
