Hi, we have four old Fotodynes in our department which run on software that requires Windows XP. This is out of date with our university security, and thus these computers can't be on the network or hooked up to the internet. We have had issues in the past with using flash drives to get images and transfer of viruses since people hook them up to their personal computers.
Is there anyone who has rigged up an old Fotodyne (we have several of model 60-2105) to be compatible with a new software? Or have you put a new camera on it with an SD card? Or can you advise other solutions that aren't "buy entirely new machines" since money is always an issue? Thanks.

It also allows you to communicate with the computer without knowing how to speak the computer's language. Without an operating system, a computer is useless.
Yes, thank you for that info, though I'm actually not concerned about the need to upgrade the operating system. We can all appreciate that cyber security is very important and so the update of the OS will need to happen if we are to track users or to transfer files on the network. I'm wondering if there is any known software compatible with the Fotodyne equipment that could run on a current operating system or if anyone has replaced the camera and/or relay to be compatible with current Windows systems so that we can easily image gels and transfer files on the network.
I find myself with the same question. We had our Luminary/FX controlled by a computer running Windows 7, and were also required to unplug from the network. When the computer died, IT wouldn't touch it, but I discovered I could revive it by switching out the hard drive. Since I couldn't immediately find a way to reinstall Win 7, I upgraded to Win 10. I've found updated drivers for Firewire and the serial ports, but of course, not the PC Image program. However, I can't get it to work and I'm not sure where the problem is. If you can help me a little with troubleshooting, I'll let you know what solution I come up with if I succeed. For example, can you tell me what your camera is called when you look at it in Device Manager? Also, if you unplug your USB cable, what error message (if any) do you get when you launch the PC Image software? Answers to these questions could tell me where to focus my efforts. Thanks.
